Q & A with Carolyn
Q: What do you like best about living here in the Catawba Valley area?
A: Catawba Valley has so much to offer. It has a rich history in furniture/ design and as an interior designer I love all my connections with this beautiful industry right here in my back yard. There is also a strong sense of community here and it’s a great place to raise a family. I love cheering for my kids at Henry Fork Soccer Complex, watching my girls dance on the stage at The Green Room or the Drendel Auditorium, walking the River Walk, City Walk, being on Lake James/ Lake Hickory, eating at some great local restaurants, and access to larger cities like Charlotte and Asheville is a plus too.
Q: What is your most memorable sale?
A: It was actually a recent sale. The kids had no idea about the home purchase and had been living in a rental home for some time. The kids were out of town for the weekend, came back in town and thought they were going to someone else’s home. The joy on their faces when they saw their furniture in the home and their clothes in the closets was the best surprise ever and one of the sweetest moments. We shed a tear or two. I’ll remember it and this sweet family forever!
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
A: In my free time I love being with my family and friends, and lazy lake days.
Q: If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
A: If I won the lottery, I’d first give to my church, and favorite charities and then build a second home on the lake!
Q: What do you love most about your job?
A: I love helping people get to where they want to be! If people are buying or selling it’s a life change of some sort. I enjoy walking with them through whatever that journey looks like and doing all I can to make it easy and stress free. I have made some wonderful friends in the business and for that I’m so grateful!
Q: Who are some of your biggest influences?
A: My parents have influenced me the most! They both have their real estate license and my dad is the best real estate guy I know! He knows so much about commercial, residential, building, construction, running businesses, and just life in general!
Q: What’s your favorite type of food or cuisine?
A: I love a good brownie sundae! (Fresh Chef and Backstreets make some of my favorites.)
Q: If you could pick any superpower, what would it be?
A: I’d love to wiggle my nose and have everything in its place like Jeannie on the I Dream of Jeannie show. All the laundry done, ironing, dishes, filing, cleaning, cooking a meal, hanging a large group of pictures etc… I could get so much done if I could just think it, wiggle my nose and woola it would be done!!
Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
A: I love being with my family, wherever they are, that’s where I want to be.
Q: What is something no one knows about you?
A: A lot of people may not know I have a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Meredith College. I grew up in my family’s furniture stores in the Raleigh area, interned with Century Furniture Design Department in Hickory while in school (was offered a job but went back to work with family), and then worked with them until we moved out of Raleigh. I also have Carolyn McMurray Interiors that I’ve been running since 2009 and I am an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers. All of this works together in assisting buyers when looking at homes. I can help them see the potential in homes or help them visualize the best use of space. With my sellers, I help them stage their homes to sell. I have even sold homes and then sold the furniture that went into them and have assisted with redesigns as well. I can help clients on many fronts when it comes to the home.
